Tampa Bay Rays players refused to wear LGBTIQ+ flag colors on their uniforms

Several Tampa Bay Rays players refused to wear the colors of the LGBTIQ flag on the uniform and hats that the team was going to wear during Pride Night last Saturday against the Chicago White Sox.

One of the players commented anonymously that the players made the decision not to use those colors due to “a decision based on faith”. The design included a rainbow pattern over the letters “TB” on their caps and over the sunburst symbol on their right shoulder.

The team organized the Night of Pride in LGBTIQ Pride month, it is the first to implement changes in the uniforms alluding to this campaign. The players, who refused to use these designs, used the traditional ones of the season.

Jason Adam, Jalen Beeks, Brooks Raley, Jeffrey Springs y Ryan Thompson They are some of the players who refused to use these logos, the Tampa Bay Times portal reported.

“It is a difficult decision. Because finally we all said that what we want is for you to know that everyone is welcome and loved here. But when we put it into our bodies, I think a lot of guys decided that it’s just a lifestyle that maybe, It’s not that they look down on anyone or think differently, it’s just that maybe we don’t want to encourage it if we believe in Jesus,” Jason Adam said of the rejection of this uniform.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay outfielder Kevin Kermaier said he wore the Pride Night uniform because it shows that all people are welcome and included when visiting Tropicana Field.

“My parents taught me to love everyone just the way they are. Go live your life. Whatever your preferences, be yourself.” Kermaier told MLB.com about Pride Night.

On the field of play, the difference between the caps and shirts of those who used the allusive caps and those who were against was observed, what fans considered to be disrespectful to the event and the LGBTIQ community.
