Borussia Düsseldorf has won the German table tennis championship for the 32nd time.

Timo Boll’s team defeated 1. FC Saarbrücken 3-2 in the playoff final of the Table Tennis Bundesliga. After more than three and a half hours, Kristian Karlsson and Dang Qiu defeated Darko Jorgic and Tomas Polansky from Saarbrücken in 3-0 sets in the decisive doubles match in Frankfurt’s Ballsporthalle. The German record champions lost the cup final 3-1 against FCS in January. In the Champions League semi-finals in March, it was again Düsseldorf who prevailed in this duel between the two best German teams.

Källberg directed Düsseldorf

On his 30th birthday, the German national player Patrick Franziska had the great opportunity to make the second Saarbrücken championship after 2020 perfect. But with the score at 2:1 for his team, the twelfth in the world rankings lost in 1:3 sets against Anton Källberg.

The Swede saved Borussia in a decisive fifth match after he had already given the defending champion a 1-0 lead against the Czech Polansky (3-1). In the end, the Saarbrücken team only won the most spectacular duels, but not the decisive ones. Franziska defeated his national team colleague Dang Qiu 3:2. World number six Jorgic from Slovenia didn’t give European champion Timo Boll a chance in his only match (3:1).
