The 41-year-old star of the Seattle Storm team will end an exceptional career in which he has won four league titles and five Olympic medals with his country’s national team.
“I have decided that this will be my last year,” Bird advanced in a message on social networks. “I’ve loved every minute of it, and still do, so I’m going to play my senior year just like this kid played hers her first.”

The point guard was selected number one in the 2002 Draft by the Seattle Storm, a franchise in which he has developed his entire career and which he led to the 2004, 2010, 2018 and 2020 championships.
At the Olympic Games, Bird was part of the American team that won gold medals in Athens-2004, Beijing-2008, London-2012, Rio de Janeiro-2016 and Tokyo-2020, where he led the delegation from his country in the opening ceremony.
