Sonoran girls win gold in basketball at the National Games

CULIACÁN, Sinaloa (Codeson).- Sonora won the gold medal by beating Jalisco 64-35 in the grand final of the Women’s Youth Basketball category at the Conade 2022 Nationals, which took place at the “María del Rosario Espinoza” Gymnasium.

With this result, Sonora concluded its participation in the burst sport in the most important national event with a gold medal, the only representative from Sonora that advanced to the final stage.

For the second consecutive game, including the semifinals, the team from Sonora largely dominated the actions on the court, the first quarter was the closest when they went up on the scoreboard 17-13.

The second quarter was the difference of the match, since it was won with a run of 18-4 to go into the halftime break with a comfortable advantage of 18 units (35-17).

For the second half, Sonora kept control of the match and went up 54-28 in the third period and during the last quarter they had the maximum advantage of the game, which was 34 points, in the end they won by 29 units.

Johanna Flores, the team captain, had a great performance in the grand finale by registering a triple-double, scoring thirteen points, grabbing 10 rebounds and giving 10 assists, in addition to two steals.

Karla Miquirray was outstanding defensively with 20 rebounds and 8 points, added an assist and a steal. Daiana Hollman contributed a dozen points and 6 boards, while Liliana Mercado scored eleven points and Cecilia Burruel eight points.

The best scorers for Jalisco were Ana Vela with 16 points, Grecia Martínez had eight points and grabbed eleven rebounds.
