Sixth pick in the first round of the NBA

Quebecer Bennedict Mathurin was the sixth player selected Thursday in the National Basketball Association’s annual draft.

The Indiana Pacers made the Montrealer their first choice during the session which took place at the Barclays Center in New York.

Mathurin became the earliest Quebecer drafted in NBA history. Never had a player born in Quebec been selected in the first round.

The latter had a thundering season with the University of Arizona Wildcats: he averaged 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 37 games.

Holder of the first pick, the Orlando Magic selected Paolo Banchero of the Duke University Blue Devils.
