The South Tyrolean tennis pro Andreas Seppi has to qualify in Wimbledon. On Monday, the man from Caldaro took his first step – but there is still a long way to go in the main field.

Andreas Seppi has to survive three qualifying rounds if he wants to be in the main draw at Wimbledon. The 38-year-old won his first match on Monday. In two sets he served Mirza Basic (ATP 242) 6: 2, 4: 6, 6: 0.

Basic and Seppi dueled in Wimbledon for almost an hour and a half. After that, the South Tyrolean was the clear winner. In the first set, Seppi didn’t show any weaknesses, while the Bosnian conceded two breaks. After that, Basic turned the tables, won the second set and made it 1-1. In the decisive third set, the man from Caldaro made short work of it. Basic didn’t get through a single service game – 0:6 from the 30-year-old’s point of view.

In the second qualifying round, Seppi meets Aidan McHugh. The Briton is in 353rd place in the ATP ranking. The game is played on Wednesday.
