Ryan Giggs to step down as Wales manager for good

The former Manchester United striker, 48, thus gives up the functions he had taken on in August 2019, but which he had already left in November 2020 due to his arrest. The former international is accused of assaulting a former girlfriend, which he denies.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to be at the helm of the country’s selection, but the only thing that matters is the Welsh federation, the staff and the players can prepare serenely by having a certain and clear knowledge of the situation without speculating on the position of their manager,” wrote Ryan Giggs.

Robert Page, interim coach since November 2020 since the withdrawal of Giggs, had led Wales to qualification for the World Cup in Qatar in November, a first for 64 years, by winning the play-off duel against Ukraine earlier this month.

Wales will play England, USA and Iran in Group B.

Ryan Giggs is accused of deliberately headbutting his ex-girlfriend and controlling her throughout their relationship. He allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, Kate Greville, on November 1 at their home in Worsley.

The Welsh coach is also said to have exhibited coercive and controlling behavior during their relationship.
