Russell Westbrook returns for a year with the Lakers

This is no surprise to anyone: Russell Westbrook decided not to exercise the release clause which it benefited from to test the market this summer. Therefore, barring a transfer (or even a buyout like John Wall), he will remain a Lakers player for another year.

As he turns 34, the 2017 MVP will therefore receive a salary of 47.1 million dollars next season. In other words, the third highest in the league, behind Stephen Curry (48.1) and James Harden (47.4), if he too were to accept his “player option” with the Sixers.

Alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, it is therefore a revengeful and new Russell Westbrook who will appear under the orders of Darvin Ham in 2022/23. Unable to play his game in the California franchise, the All-Star point guard remains on one of his worst career seasons, with “only” 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists on average (44% shooting, 30 % at 3-pts and 67% on free throws).
