Romelu Lukaku is already making a comeback at Inter Milan

What’s next after this ad

Decidedly, Romelu Lukaku is a fan of comebacks. A year after convincing Chelsea to bet 113 million euros on him, when he had just had a brilliant season punctuated by an Italian league title with Inter Milan, the 29-year-old striker is already back in Lombardy with the Nerazzurri. Determined to return to Inter after his new failure with the Blues, where he had already failed to win between 2011 and 2014, the Belgian international (102 caps, 68 goals) was loaned by the London club for the 2022-2023 season, in return for compensation of nearly €10 million (excluding bonuses).

While we were necessarily waiting for a press release, the Milanese club published a video of its owner Steven Zhang alongside the principal concerned to formalize the return of an element having found the net 64 times and distilled 16 assists in 96 appearances in the blue and black jersey between 2019 and 2021. A photo was even then published on the club’s social networks, before a press release from Chelsea.

The Lukaku mystery persists in Chelsea

Despite a convincing debut for his “new” first steps with Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku quickly experienced a crossing of the desert, failing to find the fault on the meadow. Before getting injured and experiencing much more delicate moments, giving birth to an interview with the Italian press in which his dissatisfaction and his desire to leave (he was already flirting with Inter) were never really digested on the side of Stamford Bridge.

After this tumultuous episode and public apologies, “Big Rom” never managed to raise the bar with Chelsea, scoring 8 goals (including 3 in the FA Cup against teams from lower divisions) in 26 games. In total, for his second stint with the Blues, the Red Devil will have scored 15 goals in 44 games played, still winning the Club World Cup. A very low total for the one who was to be the new gondola head of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. In the meantime, the Lukaku mystery at Chelsea remains intact.
