Roland Garros 2022: Marin Cilic eliminates Rublev and opens in the semifinals of Paris

Marin Cilic, at 33, has become the great executioner of Russian tennis in the current edition of Roland Garros 2022.

The Croatian, junior champion of the tournament in 2005, is from this Wednesday the second tennis player from his country among the four best of the Gallic Open. Previously it had been achieved by Ivan Ljubicic in 2006. I gave in to the eternal Rafael Nadal.

Cilic, who came from defeating Daniil Medvedev (2), I ended the resistance of Andrey Rublev (7) by 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6 and 7-6 (2).

The equality was broken in the hope for a break tiebreaker sleeve although it is true that the Croatian had already had a match point at 5-4.

In the Balkan’s curriculum he lacked a great result in the great of the earth. And it is that he had played the final of the Australian Open (2018), Wimbledon (2017) and had been crowned at the US Open, in the 2014 edition. His victim on that occasion was the Japanese Kei Nishikori.

Cilic proposed more than his adversary as evidenced by the fact that he ended 88 winners for Rublev’s 35, who was speculating more with the score.

The lower part of the Gallic Open draw, the friendliest, completes the quarterfinals this afternoon with the Scandinavian duel between Holger Rune and Casper Ruud (8).
