Dessau instead of Hamburg! The cup game between district club Ottensen and Leipzig will probably take place on August 30th in Dessau (Saxony-Anhalt), 380 kilometers from Hamburg.
Because the regional league team is not allowed to play on artificial turf in the “Hoheluft” stadium at home, a replacement stadium was needed. However, St. Pauli and HSV canceled. That’s why the game will be played in the Paul Greifzu Stadium (20,000 seats).
According to BILD information, representatives of both clubs met with city employees in Dessau yesterday for a site visit.
A complete exchange of home rights including a move to Leipzig was also discussed beforehand.
But RB doesn’t want to put too much strain on the pitch before the hot autumn with games in the Bundesliga, Champions League and the international match against Hungary (September 23). In addition, the costs are many times higher than in Dessau.
The 2004 DFB Cup match between TSV Völpke and Bayern Munich (0:6) took place in the Paul-Greifzu Stadium.
Atlético Madrid and Leeds United have also been guests here for test matches.
