PSV has new first keeper: Argentinian Walter Benítez

White smoke at PSV. After it was confirmed earlier today that Boy Waterman will return as third keeper, the arrival of Walter Benítez now also seems official. Trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij confirmed during a press conference that the Argentine goalie is undergoing a medical examination today.

Benítez must become the number one under the bar for the Eindhoven residents next season. The 29-year-old keeper comes from OGC Nice, where the Argentinian had a strong season last season. For example, he was nominated for the prize of the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1, the French league.

The Argentinian decided not to renew his contract with the French club after Nice missed a ticket for the Champions League. With his transfer-free transfer, he hopes to end up in the million-dollar ball in Eindhoven.

Allroundkeeper
Van Nistelrooij is happy with the arrival of Benítez. “Character, professional and winner: those are three words that apply to him. He is an all-round keeper at a very high level.”

Due to the arrival of the Argentinian, Joël Drommel seems to have to take into account a role as reserve goalkeeper next season. “I spoke to him,” said Van Nistelrooij. “I said that we will not write him off and that he can still get a lot out of it with his age. He understood that.”
