PSG, a project that is already derailing

While Nasser Al-Khelaifi wants to bet on training to build the Paris Saint-Germain of the future, a new promising youngster wants to leave the club. And for the others the prospects are still as limited.

Le Paris Saint Germain has a new plan. Finished the “bling-bling”, the constellations of stars on the ground, the club of the capital wants a team more hardworking, more French too. And above all, with more players trained at the club.

« Eleven years ago I said that I wanted to train the future Messi, today I say that we want to train the future Mbappé, who would also come from Paris! It’s not easy, but we have everything to get there, President Nasser Al-Khelaifi promised this week. We are here for a long time. We’re going to have the best training center in the world. My objective for the next few years is to have only Parisian players in our team. There is so much talent in our region. The best players in our region deserve to play for PSG. It will take time, but it is a goal. »

It’s easy to give credit to Nasser Al-Khelaifi when he talks about the talents coming from the Paris Saint-Germain academy. Especially when you look at the last list of the French team, which included many “titis”: Diaby, Rabiot, Nkunku, Maignan, Coman, Kimpembe… The problem is that only one player from this band is still playing at PSG at present, and that many of them have had to leave their training club to get their careers off the ground.

Kari, the new symbol

In this register, the trend is getting worse and worse. Like the promising Ayman Kari, defender coveted by Bayern Munich, who does not rule out staying at PSG, but would question the Parisian project. Him too…

Difficult to prove him wrong when we see the past season by Xavi Simons, Edouard Michut and other Ismael Gharbi, who waited for us to give them a little more than a few bits of the match. Young Parisians are struggling to find their place in an XXL workforce, and the situation is not improving, despite the promises of Al-Khelaifi.

Examples ? El Chadaille Bitshiabu and Warren Zaire-Emery are two huge promises from the Parisian training center, and knock on the doors of the pros. The first is a central defender, a sector of the game where PSG would be ready to drop 70 million euros to afford a new player (Milan Skriniar). The second is midfield, the area where the Parisian workforce is overloaded, and filled with undesirables who are in no hurry to leave (Herrera, Paredes, Wijnaldum, Draxler…). And guess what? The PSG nevertheless multiplies the tracks in the midfield (Renato Sanches, Vitinha…). Zaire-Emery will have to take his troubles patiently too…
