Angel Gomes was one of Manchester United’s most promising youth squads. The now Lille winger made his debut in 2017 with the ‘red devils’ with Jos Mourinho at just 16 years old against Crystal Palace. However, his relationship with the Portuguese at Old Trafford was not easy and he explained it in ‘Sportbible’.
“I had never told this story, but once, Mourinho took me to a Cup match with the first team after having played with the U21. We were at the table at dinner and he came to talk to everyone. Then he looked at me and said: I’m ‘fucked’ with you. At that time they all laughed, so I thought it was a joke. I asked him why and he told me because of my performance the day before. He went on to say that he had done this and that in front of the whole team. He must think that he had played badly. He didn’t expect it. I was surprised. He finished screaming and went on to do something else,” Gomes said.
“Some of the footballers told me not to worry, to ignore him, that he was doing it to get a reaction from me. That’s how he was. I was young and my head thought he hated me. I went to my room and called my father. He was almost crying. Then I realized that he is very passionate,” the Lille winger concluded.
