Plíšková is in the quarterfinals after an incredible drama

For the second semifinal of the season, the world number seven Plíšková will compete either with the Chinese tennis player Wang Sin-jü, or with one of the Americans Ann Li – Cori Gauff.

Thirty-year-old Plíšková collected twelve aces today and was among the top eight for the second time in the last three tournaments. She won the second of three matches against Andreescu, who will celebrate her 22nd birthday on Thursday.

“There weren’t that many big exchanges in the first set, but then that changed. Bianca is a super tough opponent who doesn’t give you anything. This match had everything. I’m glad I finally managed it,” said Plíšková in an interview on the court.

Although the former world number one lost service in the first set at 2: 2, she immediately repaid her opponent, who was nine years younger with the same coin, and after another break, she won the opening set. The winner of Kateřina Siniaková from the first round, Andreescuová, then started well, broke Plíšková’s service twice, won four games in a row and forced a continuation.

Andreescu relied on excellent service for a long time. She kept the service four times in a row with a clean game and served 5: 4 to win. However, Plíšková averted the elimination and developed three matchwords in a shortened game. The third used the score at 8: 7.

“It was hard because Bianca was a little better in the second and third sets. But even in an unfavorable situation, I fought and believed I could win. I know that I was able to play great in my own service. That’s what happened and I’m glad that I advanced, “added the native of Louny.

Martincová failed in the finish

In the match in Birmingham, Martincová lost to Giorgio 6: 7, 4: 6 and did not follow up on the previous semifinal from Nottingham. The 27-year-old native of Prague, who defended last year’s quarterfinals, was the last Czech tennis player in singles. She followed a day later Petra Kvitová.

The 56th player in the world, Martincová, lost to Giorgio, who was thirty places higher, the second match. She was not enough for the 30-year-old Italian and tournament trio this year in the second round of the Australian Open.

The match was interrupted by darkness on Monday. Both returned to the court today with a score of 1: 0 for the Italian, who won the first set in a tie-break 9: 7. Martincová did not change the two sets. The Czech tennis player, who gave up the semi-final duel with Beatriz Haddad Maia due to injury in Nottingham, started today with a bandaged right knee.

After the break, both tennis players had great difficulty maintaining their own service. The Martins managed three breaks in the second set, but she lost four times and lost. Giorgio will run into American Lauren Davis in the next phase.

After the shock, Medvedev began confidently in Halle

World number one Daniil Medvedev, after a sensational Sunday defeat in the final in Hertogenbosch, started another grass tournament in Halle with confidence. He defeated Belgian David Goffin 6: 3, 6: 2 in 66 minutes.

The 26-year-old Russian played for the title against Tim van Rijthoven in Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, on Sunday and lost in two sets to his home rival from the top three. He did not allow such a debacle today.

Medvedev could rely on the service and averted both breakballs. After advancing through the world number 39, Belarusian Ilya Ivaška awaits him in the match for the quarterfinals.

Ugo Humbert, on the other hand, is out of the game. The 23-year-old French tennis player in the second round today was not enough for the fifth seed Hubert Hurkacz from Poland, to whom he lost 6: 7 and 3: 6.

Kyrgios argued with the referee in Halle again, then eliminated Tsitsipas

Another quarrel with the referee was made by Australian stormtrooper Nick Kyrgios at a tennis tournament in Halle, when he was irritated by a warning for too slow a game. In the second round, he subsequently turned around the match with the second Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and defeated the world six in sets 5: 7, 6: 2, 6: 4.

At 2-0 in the second set for Kyrgios, the referee warned him that he was too late in front of the Greek tennis player. “He told me I was playing too slowly. Statistically, I’m one of the fastest,” said the 27-year-old Australian after the match. “I had to go for a towel, my hands were sweating in the 30-degree heat. I needed to wipe them, and he gave me a warning,” he complained.

In the fourth match, he defeated Tsitsipase for the third time. He will compete with the Spaniard Pablo Carreň for the second semi-final participation in a row.
