Philipp Kohlschreiber announced his retirement from professional tennis

Philipp Kohlschreiber (230°) surprised locals and strangers this Monday at the All England. It is that after defeating the Frenchman Gregoire Barrere (185th) for the first round of the 2022 Wimbledon qualy, declared that post tournament he will hang up his racket.

“It’s been a great and wonderful run. It’s going to be my last tournament. I’ll stop after Wimbledon 2022 and I’m very happy to have another match here. Maybe I’ll make it to the main draw.” the 38-year-old German said.

Throughout his career, which began in 1999 at the ITF level and 2001 at the professional level, has managed to win 8 ATP singles titles. The most important of all was the ATP 500 in Halle, in 2011, when he defeated Philipp Petzschner in the definition.

He also played 23 Davis Cup series for Germany between 2007 and 2021 with 20 wins and 14 losses. His best position in the world ranking was 16th in 2012 and he has had the pleasure of beating Novak Djokovic twice in his career. (Roland Garros 2009 and Indian Wells 2019 being the Serbian number one in the world) and once to Rafael Nadal (Halle 2012).
