Fifth gold medal for the Peruvian delegation that attended the Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games. This Sunday, the mixed badminton team (Daniel La Torre, Inés Castillo, José Guevara, Diego Mini, Paula La Torre, Fernanda Saponara, Diego Subauste and Namie Miyahira) beat Colombia, the tournament hosts, 3-0 in the grand final.

The national triumph began with the appearance of Daniel La Torre, who faced Daniel Borja. The Peruvian beat the locals 2-0 with partials of 21-17 and 21-9 in the individual category. Immediately, Inés Castillo crossed paths with Juliana Giraldo. Our compatriot started 18-21 down, but she recovered by 21-18 and 21-11 to seal the 2-1.

Thus, with the 2-0 for the Peruvian team in the general, the doubles competition was developed. Nationals José Guevara and Diego Mini stood out against the Colombian couple made up of Daniel Borja and Miguel Quirama 2-0 (21-13 and 21-15) to obtain the third and final point to win the gold medal.

Last Thursday, June 23, Lucas Lutar was crowned in fencing in the men’s individual foil category. In this way, Peru debuted with a gold in the medal table. Then, on Saturday, Alessia Palacios and Valeria Palacios prevailed in the lightweight double pair short rowing competition.

On the same day, Juan Miguel Postigos won the gold medal in judo for the Men’s -66kg category after defeating the Dominican Elmert Ramírez. While Thalia Gamarra climbed to the first step of the podium for the same discipline, but in the -48 kg category of the women’s branch.
