Due to major financial problems, the commitment of Pau-Orthez, whether in Betclic Elite but also in Pro B, was refused by the higher management council of the National League.

Pau-Orthez’s future in professional basketball seems clearly threatened. This Thursday, the National Basketball League has announced that it has refused the commitment, for next season, whether in Betclic Elite but also at the lower level, i.e. in Pro B, of this historic club what is Elan Béarnais, again winner of the Coupe de France this year, and more precisely on April 23, after his victory in the final against the Strasbourg club (95-86). A first for fifteen years. But also semi-finalist of the French championship. In its history, Pau, today owned by the American group CounterPointe Sports Group (CSG), thus has no less than nine French championship titles, but also a European trophy, gleaned in 1984.

Pau can make a request for appeal

The reason given to justify this refusal to commit relates to the financial problems encountered by the basketball club. Moreover, in this press release formalizing this news, the LNB thus mentions in particular “the absence of guarantee as to the continuity of operation of the club”. As the court also states, the Pau-Orthez club has “the possibility of formulating a request for a free appeal before the Higher Management Council to contest this decision”. This season, the club had also been talked about in another way, when it had then offered to its public tokens, which then represented part of its capital, using the technology of the chain of blocks (“blockchain”). Its first crypto-tokens had then been sold without any real difficulty.
