Pato, AC Milan, Barbara Berlusconi, alcohol, injuries, two marriages: what happened to the Brazilian striker

On 13 January 2008 Alexandre Pato, then 19, enchanted San Siro with his debut goal against Napoli (5-2). It seemed the beginning of a career as a champion, yet another champion of the Silvio Berlusconi-Adriano Galliani team. By the time the Brazilian striker – who scored 150 appearances for the Rossoneri, scoring 63 goals – got lost in excesses and injuries. Now he was told with an open heart, for the first time, in a letter written in his own hand to The Players’ Tribune, the American multimedia platform that publishes daily sports conversations and hosts first-person stories of professional athletes. Pato – who is now 32 years old and plays in Orlando City in Mls after having played with Corinthians, San Paolo, Chelsea, Villarreal, Tianjin Quanjian (in China) and San Paolo again – has retraced all the stages of his career, from apex at the collapse.
