Ostapenko and Kitchenok win WMA 250 doubles tournament in Birmingham without finals / Day

The Latvian-Ukrainian duo, which was sown with the second number in the tournament, had to meet the first rackets of the competition, Eliza Mertens from Belgium and Jan Shui from China. Jan won the singles semi-final on Sunday, but later withdrew from the final against Brazilian Beatrice Hadad-Maya due to injury.

Winning the tournament, Ostapenko gives 280 WTA doubles ranking points.

This is Ostapenko’s fifth WTA doubles title in his career.

In the first round they defeated Lyudmila Kitchenok’s twin sister Nadia and Serbian Krunich 6-3, 6-4, in the second round 6-1, 4-6, 12:10 beat the American Loren Davis and Katie McNally, but in the semi-final with 7- 6 (7: 5), 7-6 (9: 7) were won by Saniya Mirza from India and Luciya Hradecka from the Czech Republic.

At the beginning of the month, Ostapenko and Kichenok battled it out to the semifinals of the French Open Championship doubles tournament, both reaching this stage for the first time in their careers. In February, they competed in the final of the WTA 500 in Dubai, where they lost.

In the singles competition, where the planet’s 16th racket Ostapenko was sown with the first number, the Latvian tennis player lost in the second round on Thursday.
