2022 NBA Draft: Preview

Draft day is finally here. After years of evaluating prospects in this class, the 2022 NBA Draft arrived with a lot of uncertainty throughout the first round. The Orlando Magic are ranked No. 1 overall, and it looks like their choice is made.

The big three of Auburn’s Jabari Smith, Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren and Duke’s Paolo Banchero circled, with Smith now the likely favorite to head to Florida. What could it mean for the Sacramento Kings at No. 4 if Banchero and Holmgren are caught in the top three?

For fans of the NBA, especially the Magic, the New York Post will be following every twist until the first name is announced from the Barclays Center podium on Thursday, and you can get your hands on some great betting bonuses for the NBA 2022 Draft.

Our NBA expert walks you through everything you need to know about betting on the 2022 NBA Draft, from the types of markets available to some helpful tips and tricks to help you get more bang for your buck.

Most Common NBA Draft Bets

There are a wide range of different NBA Draft markets you can bet your money on, however, we understand they can be confusing at times. The post reviews some of the markets offered and explains them below.

First Overall Pick

No doubt everyone will have their eyes on the first draft pick. When you visit any of the best NBA Draft betting sites, you will likely see this market at the forefront of their draft picks.

For this bet, you are betting on who will be selected first in the draft, the first pick of this year belonging to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The market for the first overall draft pick would look like this:

PlayerChances to take N°1 overall
Jabari Smith–380
Paolo Banchero+250
Chet Holmgren+2200
Jaden Lierre+20000
Shaedon Sharpe+20000
Keegan Murray+20000
Odds courtesy of FanDuel. Correct at time of publication and subject to change.

As you can see, there are often times when there is a clear favorite, with this year’s favorite being Jabari Smith. This would be due to the team holding the No. 1 pick and their needs for their roster.

The only thing that matters with this market is whether the player you bet on gets drafted first or not. This bet does not take into account the position of the player or the team that selects him, only if he is the first choice of the repechage.

In addition to first-time draft markets, there are also second- and third-player draft markets. In this case, you will only have to focus on the second and third draft players, not the teams or position they play, but it will be important to consider the teams that have the second and third picks in the altogether when.

Top 10 draft picks

Another popular betting market for the NBA draft is whether or not certain players will be selected in the top 10 of the draft. It’s a great market to find value in, as there are often late deals and shock picks, making the draft nearly impossible to predict.

PlayerChances
Jalen Duren+115
Jérémy Sochan+115
AJ Griffon+210
Ochai Agbaji+260
Marc Williams+650
Grand Branham+900
Jalen Williams+1200
Odds courtesy of FanDuel. Correct at time of publication and subject to change.

If you think you’ve found value in a player who isn’t supposed to be in the top 10, then it’s worth taking a look at this market.

Choice of players above/below

Do you have a favorite player in this year’s draft? So here’s where you can get behind them. Sports betting sites will offer over/under bets on players to take above or below a specific pick, and will look like this.

Nikola Jovic draft position

draft stationChances
More than 23.5-145
Less than 23.5+115
Odds courtesy of FanDuel. Correct at time of publication and subject to change.

Again, there’s a lot of value to be found here, given that the chances of a player being caught early are often very good.

Live Draft Bets

Live, or in-play, betting makes perfect sense for the NBA Draft. As teams select players, the odds and lines are constantly changing, with upsets occurring regularly in the first round of the NBA Draft.

Online sports betting will have markets on the next player to be drafted which will be constantly updated throughout the draft. Expect last minute trades, unexpected picks and more.
