Ms. Marvel Star throws the first pitch at the Toronto Blue Jays baseball game

Mme Marvel star Iman Vellani throws out the first pitch during a Toronto Blue Jays game. The new Marvel miniseries debuted on Disney+ on June 8, starring Vellani as teenage Avengers fangirl Kamala Khan. Mme Marvel follows Kamala as she gains superpowers and becomes like the heroes she idolizes, the greatest of which is Captain Marvel. Vellani is a Pakistani-Canadian actress from Markham, Ontario, just outside of Toronto. Mme Marvel is her first on-screen role, although she already has her follow-up project set: 2023 Wonders.

In a post from Blue Jays de Toronto, the baseball team celebrated Vellani by throwing out the first pitch in the New York Yankees vs. Blue Jays game on June 17. Residing so close to Toronto, the Blue Jays are Vellani’s home MLB team, and she showed her Toronto pride in the game. Wearing a Blue Jays jersey and a Mme Marvel hat, Vellani posed for photos with the team’s mascot, as well as centre-back Bradley Zimmer. Check out the tweet below:

Like fellow Ontario superhero Simu Liu (who plays Marvel’s Shang-Chi and grew up in Mississauga, just half an hour from Markham), Vellani is proud to share her local pride. Not only did Vellani throw the first pitch of the game, but it was also the first time she had attended a Blue Jays game. While Ms. Marvel herself was looking forward to representing the team, the Blue Jays seem equally proud to have a true superhero on the field.

Mme Marvel releases new episodes Wednesdays on Disney+.
