More than 300 athletes will meet in Jaca in the Absolute Judo Cup of Spain

More than 350 people, including athletes and coaches, will meet this coming weekend in Jaca, on the occasion of the 38th edition of the Pyrenees-Pyrénées Trophy “Memorial José María Lacasta”which has the incentive of hosting the Absolute Spanish Cup “A”, which is the first scoring event on the national calendar of judo competitions.

The Olimpia sports center will be the scene of the competition, which will begin on Friday afternoon with the weigh-ins and will reach its climax on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the fighting, at the end of which the trophies will be delivered. Next, between Saturday and Sunday, the Jaca Pirineos Judo Camp will be held. Both appointments return after the break caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the presentation offered yesterday, Wednesday, at the Town Hall, the president of the Aragonese Federation of Judo and Associated Sports (Fajyda), Jaqués José Ángel Hierro, assured that “this trophy brings together the first division of judo in Spain”. In addition, the tests are qualifying for the final phase of the Spanish championship in 2023.

The organization will have the commissioner of the Olympic medalist Yolanda Soler and will be broadcast via streaming the entire development of the competition, which takes place in the absolute category. Regarding the male section, the following weights are established: +100 kg, -100 kg, -90 kg, -81 kg, -73 kg, -66 kg, -60 kg. For girls, the references are +78 kg, -78 kg, -70 kg, -63 kg, -57 kg, -52 kg and -48 kg.

According to the Councilor for Sports, Domingo Poveda, the Pyrenees Trophy “It is an important event, a maximum competition, which begins its sports season in Jaca”. In addition, he said that the collaboration of the Jaqués Consistory with Fajyda dates back to 40 years ago, when this competition was held for the first time, which “has only been interrupted by the pandemic.”

The Pyrenees Trophy is also an important event from an economic point of view, since the Jaca City Council estimated that it will generate a return of about 80,000 euros in the city, tTaking into account athletes and coaches, as well as their companions, who are mostly going to spend two nights in Jaca and are going to use their services.

“Our goal with this type of event is to achieve deseasonalization,” said the Councilor for Tourism, Olvido Moratinos, adding that “at this time, there is only one period of low occupancy, which is the month of November”. The competition will bring together athletes from ten autonomous communities: Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Cantabria, Galicia, Madrid, Navarra, La Rioja, the Valencian Community and the Basque Country.
