More than 10,000 athletes and 15,000 schoolchildren use municipal facilities during the 2021/2022 season – Murcia News

A total of 125 sports entities have developed their activity in a course in which the Department of Sports has launched agreements to promote women’s and inclusive sports

According to the data provided by the Sports Service, during the 2021/2022 season, a total of 60 sports entities and 1,300 federated athletes made use of the sports halls. With regard to soccer fields, these were reserved by 65 entities, making use of them by 6,200 users. The use by individuals was a total of 1,380 in pavilions and 1,370 in soccer fields. In total, 10,222 athletes made use of the municipal facilities.

In addition, 15,562 schoolchildren passed through the facilities and the total number of events held was close to fifty.

Among the sports modalities that have been developed in the facilities of the municipality of Murcia are: futsal, soccer 8 and 11, basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, judo, handball, badminton, skating, rhythmic gymnastics, rugby, American football, athletics , hockey, boxing, baseball, Frisbee, tennis, squash, swimming and adapted sports.

During this season, the Department of Sports has launched agreements such as the one signed with the Football Federation of the Region of Murcia, supporting initiatives to promote and foster physical activity and sport among schoolchildren, women’s sport and inclusive sport, as a vehicle of social integration for people with disabilities.

This agreement has allowed the transfer of municipal facilities for the training of youth soccer teams, for the inter-school soccer tournament, for the development of the Super 8 Soccer League for people with intellectual disabilities and for training of equality programs (Murcia’s selection of people with intellectual disabilities and programs for minors at risk of social exclusion).

For this, the municipal football fields of Corvera, José Barnés, two courts of the ‘La Vega’ Sports Center and three courts of the ‘José Barnés’ Sports Center have been made available.

The Councilor for Culture, Tourism and Sports, Pedro García Rex, has highlighted “the gradual evolution experienced in terms of the number of users in a season marked at the beginning by health restrictions, as well as the commitment of the Murcia City Council to facilitate access to the practice of sports for all citizens, with special emphasis on grassroots, women’s and inclusive sports”.
