The title of player of the week goes to the south of the baseball league on the 13th day of the game. With an outstanding performance at the plate in game two of his Mainz Athletics at the Mannheim Tornados, Marlon Jimenez gets the coveted award.
In a memorable game, the Spaniard became the match winner. After two innings, the Athletics were already 10 runs behind before they turned the game around with a grandiose race to catch up and ended up winning 13:10. Jimenez dismantled the tornadoes almost single-handedly. He had five hits, three runs and a whopping eight RBI’s in six plate appearances. Twice he hit the playground equipment over the fence. His Grand Slam home run in the seventh inning was ultimately game-changing.
But even in the first game of the double header, Jimenez played his part in his Athletics’ 13:2 success. Three hits and three RBI’s in that game rounded out his outstanding performance this weekend.
