Madrid already knows the price of Nkunku: 60 million

Christopher Nkunku (24 years old), one of the great sensations of the season, will continue to wear the colors of Red Bull Leipzig until 2026. The French attacker finished his contract in 2024, but has agreed to extend his bond with the German team for two seasons. His agent, the Israeli Pini Zahavi, met last Wednesday with the board of directors of the German team to close the operation. Thus, Nkunku will remain at Leipzig for two more seasons than what was set in his contract, setting a contract termination clause of 60 million euros.

The Frenchman has been one of the star players of the last Bundesliga: he has scored 35 goals in 50 games, in all competitions, achieving 20 in the German League. Only Lewandowski (35) and Schick (24) scored more than him. That, plus Mbappé’s fright at the last minute made him one of Madrid’s possible objectives to reinforce the squad in this transfer market for the 2022-23 campaign. It’s more, several madridista advisers recommended it to Florentino Pérez, but finally his signing did not take place. Mainly, because of the position of the German team. With an eye on the Qatar World Cup, where Nkunku is expected to be one of the tournament’s revelation players, the Teutonic team’s idea was to offer him a short renewal/extension (two more years, as it has been) adjusting his salary to this new extension and with a view to the evolution of the transfer market. A good performance of his in Qatar would open the doors to teams like Real Madrid, from the Premier (Manchester United and Chelsea), as well as PSG itself, a team from which he left in 2019 heading to the German squad. And the plan has worked: Nkunku will continue to be tied to Leipzig this campaign where many hopes are pinned on the young Frenchman.

The mode of operation of Leipzig has been the one that usually carries out to his players: to set a contract termination clause they renew the player. That way, and crudely explained, they put a price on the player. Nkunku’s clause is, from now on, 60 million euros. An affordable amount for the big European teams. Seen from another point of view, Now the big European clubs that want to sign him already know a starting price to be able to carry out the operation.

RB Leipzig completed the transfer in the summer of 2019 of this young Frenchman, then 21 years old, who arrived as one of the best talents in the Gallic country. Now, and after three campaigns of permanent evolution, Nkunku will continue to wear the colors of the team that belongs to the energy drink empire for the time being. Its price is already 60 million euros…
