Coach Luis Fernandez Cassariniwith a long career at the club, which he even managed in the highest category of the National League, was confirmed this Wednesday as the new coach to address the campus Athletic Club Quilmes who will play the 2022/23 season of the Argentine Basketball League. will be the replacement for Manuel Gelpi.
After his time as a player, Fernández has stood out as a trainer, with a permanent presence in minor categories of the “tricolor” and selected Mar del Plata, in addition to also serving as coordinator of the training categories of the Luro and Guido entity. Likewise, he has also been recognized for his work as coordinator of the Mar del Plata headquarters of Eneba (National School of Basketball Coaches of Argentina).
In this way, Professor Fernández, who has practically developed his entire professional life in the “tricolor” will once again lead a professional team. And nothing less than in the year of the club’s centenary.
His previous experience was in the 1997/98 season, when he replaced Guillermo Edgardo Vecchio (whose assistant he was), in November 1997, to leave his place a few months later to Horacio Seguí (in February 1998), after receiving a sanction of seven suspension games for the incidents in a classic against Peñarol.
Unfortunately, that season ended with Quilmes’ first descent to the second category.
