Loris Karius, ready for a new challenge

At 29 years old, Loris Karius will be left without a team at the end of Juneand with it the 2021-22 season. His contract with Liverpool ends, which has not offered him a renewal. This is no surprise either, as the German It takes four years without playing a game with the reds. His last appearance was in the 2018 Champions League final, in which two mistakes of his helped tip the scales. Real Madrid won its 13th European Cup that nightthe third in a row.

It was a nightmare for Karius. One more. He arrived at Anfield in 2016 but lost his place to Simon Mignolet after a series of errors. He regained ownership in the 2017-18 campaign, although his performance in the kyiv final convinced Jürgen Klopp of the need to incorporate a top-level goalkeeper. Alisson Becker arrived and Liverpool conquered Europe and its first league in 30 years. In Ukraine, Karius handed the ball to Karim Benzema. The Frenchman took advantage of the gift to open a marker that Gareth Bale would be in charge of closing, with the permission of the Teutonic goalkeeper.

After two loan spells at Besiktas and Unión Berlín, Karius is now looking for a new team. In a recent interview with the German channel Sky, the goalkeeper valued his time at Anfield. “There were good and bad times. It’s part of the game, that’s football, but I’ve grown as a person,” he explained.

“The level at which we worked and the professionalism that was there was unique. I had never experienced anything like this, that’s why they are having such success. I will take that determination with me to my next job. I am free and I can make my own decisions. This is a new situation for me, but I want to find a new challenge. That’s always a good thing. And I’m mentally and physically ready”.
