Leonie Beck wins silver at World Championships in Budapest

FFree water swimmer Leonie Beck has won her first international medal on the Olympic 10 km course. The Olympic fifth secured silver at the World Championships in Budapest after 2:02:29.7 hours after evaluating the finish photo.

Beck swam much more aggressively two days after her fourth place finish over five kilometers and looked like the winner with 200 meters to go. But van Rouwendaal had the higher top speed and was five tenths of a second ahead of the relay world champion from Germany. “A medal at a world championship is really great. In the end you also need a little bit of luck. But second in this field is really, really good,” said Beck.

25 km European champion Lea Boy finished eighth. Both athletes had won gold in the DSV relay at the start of the competitions in Lupasee last Sunday.

The Dutch Rio Olympic champion Sharon van Rouwendaal secured the title, bronze went to the Brazilian Tokyo Olympic champion Ana Marcela Cunha, who had won gold in the 5 km.
