Latvian trolley basketball team loses in the final match after meeting in the highest division – Basketball –

Kārlis Gabranovs, scoring 24 points and winning eight rebounds, was the most productive in the Latvian national team. In the Turkish national team, which triumphed in Division B, Mucahit Gunaidin stood out with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

It has already been reported that in the semifinals on Monday, Latvians won the championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the result 70:61 (15:18, 16:10, 21:18, 18:15), entering the highest division for the first time in history. The Division A tournament will take place next year in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

In the subgroup, Latvian wheelchair basketball players won in all three games – 56:53 over Slovenia, 66:40 over Ireland and 61:44 over Serbia. Belgium was defeated in the quarterfinals with the result 53:48. The two best teams in each group continued to compete for first place and two tickets to the A Division tournament in the quarterfinals. Lithuanian specialist Nerijus Venckus led the Latvian trolley basketball team at the European Championship for the second time.

Five trolley basketball players have played in professional teams in Western Europe this season: Raimunds Beginskis, Ralfs Bundziņš and Dmitrijs Rukavišņikovs in Italy, Kārlis Podnieks in Germany, Kārlis Gabranovs in France. In the B division of the European Championship in 2016, the Latvian national team won the fifth place, in 2018 – the eighth place, but last year – the third place. Beginskis was recognized as the most valuable player in the tournament, but the team captain Podnieks was included in the tournament’s symbolic top five.
