Kroos moves away from Madrid

Toni Kroos’ future at Real Madrid could end in June 2023, when his current contract as a madridista ends. According to SER Deportivos, the German has rejected the attempts of the white club to face an extension of the current link between both parties. Kroos prefers to wait to see how the year goes, a decision that according to this information has surprised Real Madrid.

The 32-year-old midfielder has already warned on different occasions that his possible next renewal would depend on how he was seen and what he could offer Madrid. In this sense, SER Deportivos assures that the idea that he has transmitted to the entity is that don’t want to be a burden for future sports planning. A movement that could be induced by how Madrid has been strengthening its midfield for two consecutive summers with two youngsters (Camavinga in 2021 and Tchouameni now) with a lot of football ahead of them and the new profile that Madrid is looking for, more energetic, mobile and physically deployed. Also the public reinforcement to Fede Valverde, which was renewed until 2027 although his previous commitment ended far away, in 2025.

Kroos has lived a happy season in terms of titles but with certain ups and downs personally. He started it with a pubic problem that ended up forcing him to miss the first eight games of the season and he progressively lost minutes in favor of a more rejuvenated midfield with El Halcón and Camavinga. The culmination was the second leg against Chelsea, in April, when he was substituted in the 72nd minute and the Blues were 0-2 on the scoreboard. At that moment, the cameras captured the German very angry with his coach for the change.

Madrid, despite being surprised by the German’s decision, respects her. The Chamartín entity continues to greatly value a footballer who has won four Champions Leagues in the white shirt since he signed for the club in 2014 from Bayern and in exchange for 25 million.
