Few judokas reach the black belt 5e and.

A Dieppe (Seine Maritime), Luc Crette58, has been part of this very closed circle for a few days and his success in the exam passed in Paris.

This grade rewards the journey of an enthusiast who has the judo at heart for almost half a century that he has been practicing this discipline which brings him a lot.

Janval’s kid

Luc Cretté came to judo without being really on the initiative: “When I was very young, I practiced rowing in Dieppe and I took great pleasure in rowing. Then, when I was 9 years old, the club went through difficulties. My mother then took me to the Dieppe Judo Club dojo in 1972. It all started there, alongside Professor Hubert Maure. »

Quickly, the young boy progresses in contact with the older ones and passes his colored belts.

Also, it does not take long to make people talk about him in the various competitions in which he participates: “It gave me a little notoriety within the club, he smiles. Being recognized and valued in this way encouraged me to continue. I was a kid from Janval and I went to classes at JC Dieppe with friends that I still go to today. »

A good track record

Often crowned in the Seine-Maritime, Normandy and interregional championships, Luc Cretté turns out to be a formidable competitor in his -63 kg category: “I was a light weight and I loved rubbing shoulders with the strongest. I registered regularly in all categories and I was proud when I brought back a podium after beating much heavier than me. »

Qualified on several occasions for French championships, Luc Cretté has already managed to get out of the pools in federal competitions and to claim 5e place on the French military championships.

Then, only 12 years after discovering judo, Luc Cretté became a teacher in 1984. He still teaches in three different clubs, in Bacqueville, Criel and Martin-Eglise where he is also licensed.

Four decades of teaching

In nearly four decades as a professor, he has obviously trained several hundred judokas, dozens of whom have become black belts.

Only six years after becoming a teacher, Luc Cretté obtained his 4th dan black belt in 1990. Two years later, he obtained his katas for the 5e dan and he only lacks points to get in competition.

But here it is, the formula for allocating the 5e dan is modified and Luc Cretté does not go to the end: “As I was very busy with the courses that I gave in addition to my professional activity, that left me very little time to prepare this 5th dan. So I gave up until 2012.”

Supported by his daughter

If he went back to it at that time, it was at the invitation of his daughter, also a black belt: “Yes, it was Salomé who encouraged me to go get this 5e dan, explains Luc Cretté, his throat knotted by a very understanding emotion. Salomé was my partner for the preparation then she fell ill and died. I obviously decided to stop everything. »

“It is in these painful circumstances that judo can also be useful. This allows you to hold on…, resumes Luc Cretté. I found the resources to resume the preparation of the 5th dan with Ida Lengaigne with whom I practiced judo in Dieppe and with Guillaume Saumon who teaches alongside me in Criel. The roles were well distributed between them and they brought me a lot. »

Long months of work

In fact, Ida Lengaigne supports the ju no kata, a kata based on imbalances (suppleness and flexibility to overcome brute force).

For his part, Guillaume Saumon takes care of the atemi jujitsu part (work on techniques standing and on the ground). After long months of working alongside them, Luc Cretté is ready for the exam scheduled for May in Paris.

After 25 minutes of a performance built and presented with his two partners Ida Lengaigne and Guillaume Saumon (7 minutes on the ju no kata part and 18 minutes on the atemi jujitsu part) which requires a lot of quality in mastery, it remains to wait the results: Luc Cretté is received at his 5e dan and is one of only 25% of candidates admitted of the day!

“A tribute for Salome”

Happy to be one of the few judokas from Dieppe to hold the famous 5e dan (Bruno Delaunay, André Wong and Yves Elmosnino who left the region), Luc Cretté obviously had his “first thought for (his) daughter. I would have liked to share this moment with her. This 5e dan, it’s a tribute to Salomé”.

And then, of course, he cites his partners and his family who were essential to his success.

On the tatamis, Luc Cretté continues to take pleasure in learning and sharing alongside his students: “Everyone must understand that, whatever their level, you always learn when you practice judo.

Her son follows in her footsteps

The path of learning is never over”. This is what he regularly repeats to his son Manoa, a young and promising judoka who is following in his father’s footsteps.

Does Luc Cretté now think of the 6e dan? “Not right away,” he concludes. I’m already going to breathe a little after this 5th dan which required a lot of investment. Then, we will see if I find the time to prepare this 6th dan…”
