Josep Sáez has informed the Board of Directors of the Basketball Manresa leaving the presidency of the club. The leader alleged in a press conference offered on Tuesday personal reasons that make it “incompatible” to continue performing the functions of president and his daily work.
“The reasons are personal, all of you who know me know that I have an intense professional activity that is growing and there comes a time when you have to make a balance of what you want to do. I have to leave it, but I do it with pride of everything what we have achieved, more in this last season”, said, excited, Josep Saez.
Saez took over as president five seasons ago when the team was in the LEB Gold. He remembers it as “a complicated moment”, but pointed out: “The people I have worked with have made everything easier for me. I am very happy to have promoted the team to LEB and to have consolidated ourselves again in the Endesa League”.
After five seasons at the helm of the Bages team, Saéz leaves an enormous legacy in the Catalan city. Since his arrival at the management of Bàsquet Manresa, he has reaped: a promotion to the ACB1 title of Catalan League2 classifications for Playoff of the Endesa League, a ticket for the Copa of the King of Granada and a runner-up in the BCL in this present edition.
The objective of Saez at the beginning of his mandate was for “Manresa to recover its enthusiasm for basketball”. “We worked on it from below, in the LEB Oro, and we managed to return the club to where it deserves. But not only that, what makes me most proud is to see young people fill the pavilion. That cannot be paid even with all the money in the world,” he stressed.
Saez showed his gratitude to coaches, players, club members, organizations such as the ACB o la FEBand especially to his work team for these “magnificent five years”.
Likewise, he explained: “We resigned from the position, but we continue to be linked to the Effective Council of the club to do the replacement well with the new president.”
On who will be his replacement, he said: “It is close to being known. Everything will go relatively quickly, but there are still things to decide.”
The press conference ended with Josep Sáez hugging with the rest of the team Board of directorsan act in which he was accompanied by club workers, members of the coaching staff and family members, and the new coach of the club even made an appearance Baskonia and former Baxi ManresaJoan Peñarroya.
