In Orléans, companies recruit job seekers by playing badminton!

Reveal their qualities on the field. Sweat to get a job. Sweat alongside their future bosses. Literally. Here’s what more than ninety job seekersTuesday, June 28, at the Georges-Chardon gymnasium, in Orléans.

The first Loire Valley edition of the national event “From stadium to employment”organized by Pôle emploi Centre-Val de Loire and the regional badminton league, with the support of the French Badminton Federation and Paris 2024.

Launched in 2019 by Paris 2024, the National Sports Agency, Pôle Emploi and the French Athletics Federation, the national event “From the stadium to employment” offers companies the opportunity to focus, initially, on the know-how of the candidates, highlighted via a sports activity. Other meetings of this type are planned in the Centre-Val de Loire region, such as around table tennis, in Tours, at the end of the year.

Objective ? Valuing “candidates’ know-how”, at a time when “seven out of ten companies tell us that they want to recruit by focusing on behavioral skills“, noted Virginie Coppens-MenagerRegional Director of Pôle Emploi.

“This concept is smart”

For nearly two hours, unemployed people and recruiters – from around twenty companies in the department (temporary work agencies; fast food, transport, building and public works companies; banks; shops, etc.) – hit the steering wheel, without knowing who is who.

In small groups, identified only by their first names, they take part in eight workshops designed to highlight relational and professional assets : team spirit, ability to listen, rigour, sense of anticipation, stress management, reactivity, perseverance…

At the end of the effort, the smiles can be read on the faces on each side of the net. Mylene Viet, regional director of the Patàpain fast food chain, from September 1, considers the initiative “super”. As Sylvie Naude, director of the Sandillon Super U. This analyzes the candidates’ “cohesion, understanding and following instructionsthe absence of cheating…” Mylène Viet adds “the dynamism, le leadership“.

Abilities also scrutinized by Carine Bouchelet. For the operations manager at the transport company Transdev, this new kind of meeting is also a way to “promote the nobility of the profession of road driver”. Especially since the company is constantly looking for staff, sometimes with difficulty. “This concept is smart. You have to know how to reinvent yourself in recruitment.

“At the start of the game, the candidates wonder who the employer is in the group. But at some point, the masks fall off. Naturalness returns”, indicates Sylvie Naudé, one of the recruiters participating in the “Du stage towards employment”.

“Anonymity removes all barriers”

Carine Bouchelet appreciates “anonymity, which chases away all barriers”. Just like the majority of job seekers, delighted to break the codes of the classic job interview.

“I don’t like it. It stresses me out. At least there, I played hardI took pleasure in it, without asking myself any questions”, affirms Jade Rostaged 19, who is heading towards a professional diploma in youth, popular education and sport.

What his teammate for a day confirms, Ahmed Benameur33 years old, father of three children:

“In interviews, we tend to want to give a good image of ourselves. There, on the ground, we are as we are.”

The latter also approves of the paradigm shift: “Our advisors have come out of their shells. We were talking about human being to human being.”

The sports morning gives way to a more classic job dating in the afternoon. In total, according to Pôle emploi, “about twenty people have been recruited or are in the process of being recruited”.
