Historic badminton, Algeria wins gold

The Algerian pair of Koceila Mammeri and Youcef Sabri Medal won the badminton gold medal, beating (2-1) the Spanish pair Luis Enrique Pereira-Pablo Abian Vicen, in the men’s doubles final, played yesterday, Monday , at the sports hall of Oued Tlelat.

Mammeri and Medal had however started the game badly, conceding the first set (21-14), before recovering and winning the next two, respectively with a score of 21-19 and 21-16.
A historic feat for Algerian badminton which, before this 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games in Oran, had never won a medal in this discipline.
The Algerian pair reached the final by dominating a Croatian duo, composed of Luka Ban and Filip Spoljarec, with the score of 2 sets 1.

This is the 5th Algerian gold medal
With this historic victory, Algeria increases its lead in the overall medal table. Indeed, this is the fifth gold medal for Algeria since the start of the competition. As a reminder, the first four precious metal charms were all gleaned by Karate, an event which allowed the host country of this 2022 edition of the JM to prance at the top of the provisional medal ranking, in which it also has two in silver won also in karate.

Karate (+84kg): Daihi silver medalist
The Algerian Hocine Daihi (+84 kg) won the silver medal at the Mediterranean Games-2022 in Oran, after his defeat against the Croatian Andelo kivesic (2-1), in the final disputed yesterday, Monday, in the center of Mohamed-Ben Ahmed conferences in Oran. Before reaching the final, Daiki won successively against the Serbian Tazanovic Dorde (7-2) in the round of 16, then against the Portuguese Morera Valente (4-1) and in the semi-final against the Moroccan Mehdi Seriti ( 7-1).
The two bronze medals in the +84 kg category went to Moroccan Mehdi Seriti and Bosnian Dzuho Rigad.
Daihi’s medal is the 6th medal (4 in gold and 2 in silver) won by Algerian karate at the Mediterranean Games in Oran.
