Now the Berliners are going one better: For the first time, a Bundesliga club with Kay Bernstein has elected an ultra as president.
What will happen?
► Will he legalize pyro and turn the Olympic Stadium into a firepot?
► Are the people so hated by Ultras (like Dietmar Hopp) or clubs (like Leipzig) insulted and ridiculed with his blessing in the stadium?
► Will he finally scare away the 375 million investor Windhorst, who is unloved in the curve?
If the answers are “yes”, it will be dangerous for Hertha and the league. Then the Ultras from other clubs could also try to seize power – and thus scare off much-needed investors.
But maybe the ultra-president will also develop from a wild tiger to a tame bedside rug.
And in the best case, his experience as a bridge builder also helps to reconcile the curve and the main grandstand.
Only one thing is certain: The whole league is looking at the capital club again.
