Greet Minnen stunts at Wimbledon and plays ex-winner Muguruza mercilessly home | Wimbledon

Minnen had to wait a long time in the wings on Tuesday to start her first game on the London grass. But her patience was rewarded, as she rocketed from the starting blocks.

The number 88 in the world immediately forced a break against Garbiñe Muguruza, who was the final winner at Wimbledon in 2017 and number 10 in the WTA ranking today.

At 5-3, Minnen was even allowed to serve for the set, but Muguruza hit back. Minnen didn’t let herself be thrown off balance and won the first set on the service of the Spanish.

Due to the falling darkness, the referee put an end to it after the first set, but a day later when it resumed, Minnen seemed to be on the court with determination.

With dominant tennis she didn’t give Muguruza a chance anymore, who didn’t get a game on the board. With a bagel in just 19 (!) minutes, Minnen finished it off without mercy: 0-6.

Minnen is thus for the first time in the second round at Wimbledon. In it she meets the Chinese Qinweng Zhen, who also took home a former grand slam winner with Sloane Stephens.
