Greet Minnen (88)

Greet Minnen has made an excellent start in her first round at Wimbledon. She won the first set against ex-winner Garbine Muguruza, but due to the falling darkness she has to finish her match tomorrow.

Minnen had to wait a long time in the wings to start her first match on the London grass. But her patience was rewarded, as she rocketed from the starting blocks.

The number 88 in the world immediately forced a break against Garbine Muguruza, who was the final winner at Wimbledon in 2017.

At 5-3, Minnen was even allowed to serve for the set, but Muguruza hit back. Minnen didn’t let herself be thrown off balance and won the first set on the service of the Spanish.

Due to the falling darkness, the referee put an end to it after the first set. Tomorrow Minnen has to try to pick up the thread again.
