“You know, I think everything about the brand is rooted in reality. I can see this guy, what he looks like, exist on the streets. And for me, it’s a really modern approach to fashion,” explains Matthew M. Williams at Vogue just after the presentation of its spring-summer 2023 men’s show on the grounds of the Military School. From the incredible set, to the hegemony of the logo, to the new tailoring… Here is everything you need to remember from this event show.
The impressive decor
The parade took place in the heart of the Military School, located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. Matthew M. Williams was strong with a decor in the form of an immaculate pool where a white cube floated which served as a backstage for the models who literally walked on water.
logomania
This season more than ever, the logo at Givenchy becomes powerful. You quickly notice it: the opening look consists of a baseball jacket stamped with the quilted emblem, associated with the signature G and 1952, the year of creation of the house. Balaclavas, T-shirts, caps and neon-colored sweatpants are also embellished with the famous logo.
Personal inspirations
Matthew M. Williams looked at the people who matter to him, men who inspire him, whether artists, musicians or designers: “Men’s ready-to-wear was, quite naturally, the way in which I discovered fashion. In my work at Givenchy, my men’s collections continue to be grounded in an instinctive starting point. This parade is a reflection of myself and of the people around me, from my close friends to the artists who inspire my work”.
