Garros-Saugrain: “Nadal? The reaction of the runners is logical”

Cycling consultant for the RTBF, Cyril Saugrain spoke on one of the hottest topics in the world of sport right now: infiltrations of anesthetic product from which Rafael Nadal during his 14th Roland-Garros victorious in order to calm his pain in his left foot. If this practice is legal in tennis and in other sports, it is not in cycling, hence the incomprehension and astonishment shown on the subject by two important riders of the French peloton, in this case Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) and Guillaume Martin (I trust).

“When you’re a sportsman, you don’t understand this difference in treatment”

“As a former cyclist and still being present in the world of cycling, I find this reaction of the runners logical, they feel a little injustice. We impose things on them, whereas in other sports, we can disregard all these regulations”commence Cyril Saugrainbefore continuing. “Now, is it logical that what is prohibited in cycling is not prohibited in tennis? No. When you are a sportsman, you do not understand this difference in treatment, you have a feeling of injustice, even if one can imagine that the riders understand that there is a difference in regulations and that they must comply with them.”

“The standardization of treatments is the wish of all”

Regarding the standardization of rules, Cyril Saugrain is in favor of it, even if he is well aware that each sport has its specificity and that certain regulations must be adapted. “The standardization of treatments is the wish of all, the rules must be the same. It is clear that depending on the sport practiced, there are dopings which are different because the aptitudes are different […] We have to be able to mesh all of this so that there is a certain logic vis-à-vis the athletes, but also vis-à-vis the general public, who might also not understand.concludes the consultant of the RTBF.
