From the Broncos to Chelsea, the most expensive club sales in history

The Denver Broncos franchise has been officially sold to the Walton-Penner family, who will take over the company from the Pat Bowlen Trust for a record $ 4.65 billion (nearly € 4.33 billion). It is a record for the sale of a team.

The sale of the NFL franchise surpasses the previous record set for the sale of the NBA team of the Brooklyn Nets which in 2019 were acquired for 3.3 billion dollars (3.08 billion euros).

In third place we find the purchase of Chelsea by Todd Boehly. The operation, as is known, closed on the basis of a total of 5 billion euros. The club was valued at just under 3 billion euros (2.92 billion). The newly-owned consortium of the London club has pledged to invest a further 2 billion in the coming years between the stadium, the men’s and women’s teams and the company’s facilities, with the aim of continuing the glorious Abramovich era.

Just off the podium the sale of the New York Mets. The Major League baseball team was sold in 2020 for € 2.24 billion. This is followed by another American football franchise and one from the National Basketball Association: the Carolina Panthers and the Houston Rockets, whose value at the time of sale was valued at 2.12 and 2.05 billion euros.
