Former international Janmaat (32) stops and becomes technical director at ADO

Janmaat started his career at ADO and later played for sc Heerenveen, Feyenoord, Newcastle United and Watford. At the end of 2020, the injury-plagued right back returned to The Hague. His injuries continued there. In the past year and a half, he only made thirteen league matches.

“Despite the fact that I still had a contract for one year, I started to doubt whether I wanted to continue as a football player,” says Janmaat. “My ambition is to remain active in the football world, but in a different role. When I was given the opportunity to fulfill this position at ADO Den Haag, I did not have to hesitate for long.”

‘Ideal step’

Without experience, Janmaat is immediately thrown into the deep end during a current transfer period. “In this position I will be able to put my experiences from the football world and the network I have built up during my professional career to good use. This is an ideal step for me,” he says.

After the resignation of Jeffrey van As as manager of football affairs in January 2020, ADO no longer had a permanent person responsible for the transfer policy. Albert van der Dussen held the position on an interim basis until February 1 of this year. In recent months, general manager Edwin Reijntjes and owner Beristain were jointly responsible for putting together the selection.
