Flemming almost yields a record amount for Fortuna, tenth acquisition for Sparta | NOW

Zian Flemming moves from Fortuna Sittard to Millwall FC. The 23-year-old playmaker is one of the Eredivisionist’s most expensive sales ever. Sparta Rotterdam already presented the tenth acquisition for the new season with the Japanese youth international Koki Saito on Saturday.

The transfer fee for Flemming is said to be around 2.5 million euros. With that, he would only have to tolerate Mark van Bommel on the list of most expensive Fortuna players, for whom PSV transferred 2.9 million euros in the summer of 1999.

Millwall finally got the hang of it by attracting Flemming, who still had a two-year contract in Limburg. The number nine of the last Championship season also made attempts to sign the midfielder during the previous two transfer periods.

Flemming was trained by Ajax, where he did not make a debut in the first team. After periods at NEC and PEC Zwolle, he signed with Fortuna two years ago. In Limburg he became an important player with 27 goals and eleven assists in 63 games.

Earlier this summer, Fortuna already said goodbye to keeper Michael Verrips (who left for FC Groningen) and mercenaries Jordan Botaka, Nigel Lonwijk and Ryan Johansson. This is offset by the sensational arrival of Burak Yilmaz.

Koki Saito (left) was already present at the first Sparta training on Friday.

Sparta presents tenth addition with Saito

Of all Eredivisie clubs, Sparta is the most effective for the time being. The Rotterdammers have secured the arrival of twenty-year-old Japanese attacker Saito, who is rented from Lommel SK. He played there together with Arno Verschueren, who had already been hired by Sparta for the past six months and was subsequently signed on permanently.

“We have followed Koki emphatically in the last period and are convinced of his class,” says technical director Gerard Nijkamp of Sparta. “He can play in several positions and has the quality to be important in the Eredivisie.”

In addition to Sparta, FC Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles have already signed many players. Ajax is the only Eredivisionist who has not yet contracted a newcomer.
