Federation Cup – Second defeat for Brasschaat Braves

(Belga) The Brasschaat Braves baseball team lost to the Astros Valencia (4-8) their third game in the Federation Cup, a competition that the Antwerp club is organizing this week.

Brasschaat Braves, leader in Belgian Division 1, undefeated after 16 games, saw the Spaniards take the lead and widen the gap. A Belgian recovery, which resulted in four runs in the seventh beat, was insufficient. The batters made 7 basehits, the Astros 10. Winners of the Bulgarian Sofia Blues and beaten by the London Mets, Kevin Peeters’ troops occupy fourth place out of five participants, after three days. The Astros are in the lead with two victories, as are Austria’s Vienna Diving Ducks, who beat Bulgaria’s Sofia Blues (15-1) on Wednesday. On Saturday, the first two will play the final. A year ago, the Braves had reached the final of the Federation Cup, beaten by the Croatians of Olimpija Karlovic. Brasschaat was then also the organizer of the event in which only three teams took part due to the cancellations forced by the health crisis. As compensation, the European federation, CEB, decided to give Brasschaat the possibility of organizing a full tournament. This is the sixth edition of this event won in 2017 by Borgerhout Squirrels.
