FC St. Pauli: Andreas Bornemann gets 0-goal striker Johannes Eggestein – 2nd Bundesliga

The next newcomer at FC St. Pauli. The Kiez club signed center forward Johannes Eggestein (24) from the Belgian first division club Royal Antwerpen.

Can “Jojo” plug the storm hole?

The balance of the past season is bad: In Belgium Eggestein completed 16 games (16 substitutions!) For Antwerp in the 1st league, plus six European Cup games – without a single goal. This also caused its market value to drop from EUR 10 million (2019) to EUR 1.8 million today.

Sports director Andreas Bornemann (50) shelled out 600,000 euros for the zero-goal striker.

Things went better for Eggestein at Werder Bremen (56 games, 6 goals) and at loan club Linzer ASK (39 games, 20 goals). The brother of Freiburg’s Maximilian Eggestein (25) wants to build on these successful times again at St. Pauli.

Jojo Eggestein: “I’ve been watching the club for a long time and now I want to give everything to bring St. Pauli forward. The Millerntor is also a factor in why I enjoyed coming here. The overall package is right, now we can get started.”

Head of sport Bornemann: “With him, an ambitious striker is coming to the Millerntor. At 24, he is still young and capable of development, but already has a lot of experience, even internationally. We are continuing on our course of strengthening our squad in a targeted manner and signing players who want to help us immediately on the one hand, but also want to take further steps at the same time.”

Eggestein could be on the training ground as early as Wednesday. Head coach Timo Schultz (44): “He will open up more options for us to make our attacking game variable. I am happy to welcome him to our team – and that the competition is really picking up speed.”
