FC Bayern? “BVB is the absolute top favourite,” says Jürgen Kohler

Bundesliga fight for the championship

“Borussia Dortmund is the absolute top favourite”

According to Kohler, BVB is the “absolute top favourite” for the championship

A changing of the guard in the Bundesliga? If Jürgen Kohler has his way, this will happen in the coming season. For the former world champion, Borussia Dortmund is “the absolute top favorite for the championship – not FC Bayern”.

Jürgen Kohler was soccer world champion, played for Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern. The former defender surprised in his prognosis for the new season. In his eyes, BVB are ahead after ten unsuccessful attempts.

FFor Jürgen Kohler, FC Bayern Munich is not the most promising candidate for the German soccer championship in the coming season. In his column, the now 56-year-old former world and European champion decided on a different team for the “Kicker”. For Kohler, who played for both clubs during his active career, Borussia Dortmund is “the absolute top favourite” for the championship title.

All in all, the former defender, who once played for both Bayern and BVB, said: “When I look at the two top German clubs, I’m looking forward to the coming season. It should be more exciting than the one that just ended.”

Kohler still considers the cause of the attacker Robert Lewandowski, who is willing to change, to be a difficult topic in Munich that is causing unrest. And newcomer Sadio Mané, despite his extraordinary skills, is not a classic replacement should Lewandowski leave the record champions this summer.

Kohler praised BVB’s purchasing policy. “These commitments will strengthen the team.” With these investments, BVB have the chance “to win at least one title and break Bayern’s ten-championship streak.”

However, the Champions League participant still had to do without a few prominent players. The top signings Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle, Karim Adeyemi, Salih Özcan and Sebastien Haller were absent at the start and, like the other national players, will not start training until July 8th.

The first friendly opponent on July 5th is the Westphalian league Lüner SV, on July 9th BVB will play at Dynamo Dresden and on July 14th at SC Verl. From July 15th to 23rd the team will travel to the training camp in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland. Two friendlies against the two Spanish top division clubs FC Valencia (July 18) and FC Villarreal (July 22) are scheduled there.
