FC Bayern Basketball loses captain Nihad Djedovic

Basketball runner-up Bayern Munich loses its captain and record player Nihad Djedovic. As the Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday, Djedovic is leaving the club after nine years and joining the Spanish club CB Unicaja Malaga. The Bosnian with a German passport appeared a total of 291 times for Munich in the BBL and scored 3244 points.

“It’s not a farewell for me, I’m just saying goodbye!” said Djedovic, who won the German championship three times with the Munich team (2014, 2018, 2019). Managing director Marko Pesic emphasized that Djedovic will “remain a close friend for whom all doors are always open”.

Pesic announced that Djedovic’s shirt number 14 will no longer be assigned at Bayern and “at a certain point in time” will be hanging under the roof of the Munich Audi Dome next to the jerseys of the “other legends” Steffen Hamann and Demond Greene.

Djedovic’s loss is a setback for the ambitious five-time German champions. It was only on Sunday that the Munich team lost the final series against their permanent rival Alba Berlin 3-1 and had to watch the capital city team win the third championship title in a row in the Munich Audi Dome.
