Paulo Fonseca succeeds Jocelyn Gourvennec as coach at Lille. The Portuguese faces the task of rebuilding the club after falling to 10th place after winning the surprise title in 2021.
We know Paulo Fonseca mainly from his visits to Shakhtar Donetsk and AS Roma. Now the Portuguese globetrotter is settling down in France, where he takes last year’s number 10 under his wing with Lille.
That 10th place was a huge disappointment for the reigning champion. With the (probable) departure of Sven Botman and Renato Sanches, Fonseca will have to rebuild at the northern French club.
“I am very proud and honored to be the trainer of Lille,” said Fonseca, after signing a two-year contract. “I know it is a club with a rich history. Because of this I also bear a great responsibility.”
