Eintracht Frankfurt: Martin Hinteregger apologizes – Bundesliga

Now Martin Hinteregger (29) speaks!

After the scandal surrounding his collaboration with the right-wing populist Heinrich Sickl in the organization of his “Hinti Cup”, Eintracht’s defense chief apologized publicly on Austrian television at ORF.

“The mistake I have to admit to myself is that I didn’t research who he is, what his background is. But who does that? I have to blame myself. For many in Sirnitz in my generation he was absolutely unknown. It will leave a small scratch on my career,” said Hinteregger.

Hinteregger had already published a statement on his Instagram profile on Thursday, which many considered insufficient. Now the Eintracht star followed suit.

Hinteregger now continues at ORF: “Everyone I’ve talked to in the last ten or 15 years and now sees that I’m being put in the right corner knows that it’s absolute nonsense.”

By the way: Despite the scandal, the “Hinti Cup” is to take place in his home village of Sirnitz (Austria). However, in a slimmed down version.

The appearances of DJ Ötzi, Vega or Melissa Naschenweng in front of Albeck Castle (owned by the Sickl family) have been cancelled. Already paid tickets will be refunded.

Instead, on June 17th there is only the official opening of the hobby tournament, in which a local band plays, and on June 18th the all-day tournament plus award ceremony and subsequent party in the marquee.
