ECUADOR.- The Ecuadorian Olympic Committee held the flag ceremony of the delegation that will compete in the XIX Bolivarian Games that will take place in Valledupar and in the sub-venues from June 24 to July 5.

For these fairs in the land of Cacique Upar, Ecuador will have 259 athletes who will seek to win medals in 26 sports: athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, bowlingboxing, speed boating, cycling (track, road, BMX, MTB), equestrian, fencing, artistic gymnastics, golf, judo, karate, weightlifting, wrestling, swimming (pool and open water), figure and speed skating, squashtaekwondo, tennis, table tennis, archery, shooting sports, triathlon, sailing and beach volleyball.

Weightlifter Alexandra Escobar and boxer Gerlon Congo will be in charge of carrying the Ecuadorian flag at the opening ceremony that will take place on June 24 at the Armando Maestre Pavajeau soccer stadium.

At 41 years old, weightlifter Alexandra Escobar will be one of the most experienced cards of the Ecuadorian delegation. Escobar is the athlete from that country with the most performances in the Bolivarian Games, as this is her sixth participation, counting in her history the appointments of Ambato (Ecuador) 2001, Armenia and Pereira (Colombia) 2005, Sucre (Bolivia) 2009, Trujillo ( Peru) 2013 and Santa Marta (Colombia) 2017, all with golden vintages.

“A little surprised, I did not expect this, many guys who are world champions deserve it too. Very proud as always to carry my flag to the highest. As an athlete, it is what we want, because it is a great and beautiful responsibility”, Escobar highlighted.

Meanwhile, Gerlon Congo, 21, has performances on his sports resume such as the one at the World Boxing Championship held in Serbia, an event in which he ranked fifth in the super heavyweight category (+91kg).

“I did not expect it, since we know that in the country we have good athletes with excellent results, now I am totally excited, a little nervous, but we are going to assume it with full responsibility,” said Congo.

It is noted that the Team Ecuador will compete with 259 athletes in 26 of the 33 sports included in the Valledupar 2022 schedule, looking for medals in athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, bowlingboxing, speed boating, cycling (track, road, BMX, MTB), equestrian, fencing, artistic gymnastics, golf, judo, karate, weightlifting, wrestling, swimming (pool and open water), figure and speed skating, squashtaekwondo, tennis, table tennis, archery, shooting sports, triathlon, sailing and beach volleyball.

Along with the other 10 delegations that will compete in the Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games, Ecuador will officially begin its participation with fencing, a sport that will take place in the Great Hall of the Country Club, a stage that will also host figure skating.
